Three candidates confirmed for Todmorden Ward on May 22nd
Susan Press and Margaretta Holmstedt have thrown their hats into the ring for the Todmorden Ward in the upcoming Calderdale Council elections.
In Todmorden the Liberal Democrats have struggled to find anybody to stand, with the sitting Liberal Democrat Councillor Ruth Goldthorpe stepping down, her replacement candidate Olwen Jennings stepping down, and her replacement Rabbi "Slick Mick" Taylor pulling out too.
More interesting is the entrance of Susan Press, a Hebden Royd Town Councillor. For a while it appeared that the deeply unpopular Steph Booth had made a come-back with her election as chairman of the local Labour Branch, but she seems to have stepped down again, with grass-roots Labour activist and critic of Steph Booth, Ms Press taking her place.
The Greens and Conservatives usually field candidates for this ward but they becoming an endangered species round here. I welcome having an honest straight-forward leftist for an opponent. Susan may not be in my fox-hole, but she is not in my sights either - for the moment.
