Discounting the rise of UKIP the last five years has been a disaster for hard-line and principled patriots. In 2007 the BNP polled an average of 13% of the vote, and held fifty Council seats including three here in Calderdale and eight in Burnley. By 2009 they had two MEPs in the European Parliament.
Today the British National Party has no local seats and their average vote in local elections is between 2 and 5%. I have always rejected this soft-peddling strategy and for that reason I never joined the BNP.:
What a missed opportunity, ten years ago the BNP was shaking the foundations of British politics. They turned the whole debate on immigration upside down. Today they have destroyed themselves and watered down their policies to the point where nobody knows what they even stand for any more.
Now we have a very poor substitute in UKIP, they are plastic patriots binging on EU expenses and cheap publicity, but there is no radical substance in all of their policies—it’s all rube bait for the voters. When UKIP ceases to be useful to the current political elites, that party will be starved of publicity too.
I have has been contesting elections here since 2010 and in total contrast to the conflicted and confused BNP, the radical vote here has been going up.
I contested a number of local Town Council seats, obtaining between 14% and 26% of the vote, also and regularly attend the Town Council and publish a newsletter “Fighting Back”. Unlike many people courting the “patriot” vote, I am committed to his town and the long term electoral fight.
I am now a proud Independent, and answers to my conscience, not political policy makers, and am not afraid to be called a “racist” by my local political foes. If the Liberal Democrats and Labour began complimenting me I would be quite upset though.
