Local internet discussion groups always a useful tool for those of us interested in learning exactly who our political opponents keep company with, and conversely, who their enemies are.
One person who has recently come onto my radar is Hywel Morgan, author of the ADLC-approved book "Beating Back the BNP". A quick search of this man's internet history demonstrates he is a former member of the ruling body of the Young Liberals, and has written his party's manual on "combating the BNP". Never elected and based down the valley in Mytholmroyd, he was not much of a factor whilst the Town Hall was run by highly competent pillars of the community under that party's banner.
Now those Liberal Democrats who were just in it for the comminity have either resigned, gone Independent, retired or passed away the Liberal Democrat Branch has fallen into the brief hands of the "Calderdale Matriarchs" such as Coun. Ruth Goldthorpe and Olwen Jennings. These people have reached the end of their shelf life too and the local Liberal branch are down to the unemployable neck-enders such as Chris Baksa and Joe Rez.
They have gone, in the space of four years from David O'Neill, Anne James and Dorothy Jordan (all deserving of respect, regardless of ones political viewpoint) to Joe Rez and Chris Baksa. Even their ex-colleague Philip Walters wants nothing to do with them any more.
Of course such a time is when the interlopers from down the valley step in. Rabbi "Slick Mick" Taylor makes his comeback, bringing with him Hywel Morgan (called Hewlett Packard by his own members). Hywel Morgan has gone after me for years, and I once had to instruct him to speak to me with a little more courtesy, to his alarm.
Now it seems he has been writing lies about my Labour opponent too, Susan Press. Susan is a far-left Labour activist, about as far to the left as the Labour Party gets, in fact (that could be taken two ways I suppose) who is a refreshing change from Steph Booth.
I propose that, in the spirit of the Molotov-Ribbentropp Pact, we declare open season on the Liberal Democrats in Todmorden and run Hewlett Packard's rear end back down the road to mytholmroyd.
