1. I uphold the right of Todmorden, like many other former boroughs have done, to leave its existing borough Calderdale Council and negotiate its exit with the Boundary Commission.
I propose that we create a new Municipality to be run from Todmorden, and that the four parishes of "Old Todmorden" (Blackshaw, Heptonstall, Erringden and Wadworth) join with us. These parishes would comprise the new Hepton Town Council.
2. Irrespective of whether we secede from Calderdale Council, I call for for the mothballing of Todmorden Town Council which has no influence over major planning policy and has become a magnet for careerist parasites.
In its place I call for twelve pilot Community Councils (with minimum electorates of 200 voters) to be carved out of the Civil Parish of Todmorden, and they would take over the planning responsibilities and grants regime from the Town Council. The franchise would be voluntary, not mandatory, non-voters would not be expected to pay towards it's upkeep and political parties would be kept off the ballot.
3. If elected I will be a strong voice for the bringing of major industry back to Todmorden. All business prospects that can sustainably provide jobs for locals would be encouraged and not run off, except for in the Town Centre of which the entirety would be treated as a "Conservation Area" .
Our future does not lie with Tourism, we are not Hebden Bridge. Todmorden is not going to be regenerated through art galleries and coffee shops. There are close to a thousand people without work in this town, and their future is not being considered by those charting our town's future.
4. I am committed to restoring the true culture of Todmorden which is Northern, working-class and rural.
I will oppose all empowerment of outsider-controlled special interests who re trying to turn our town into a "cosmopolitan" and "metrosexual" paradise. I will use my influence against them and seek local government to commit to promoting our native, indigenous, Pennine border-town heritage. I advocate Lancashire and Yorkshire day be solemnly marked in our town's community calendar.
5. I am determined to promote self-sufficiency and Independent living through a variety of education and genuine care of the environment.
In this department the first thing I would be calling for would be the replacement of Incredible Edible with a sustainable food network that is about self-sufficiency, not money and publicity. I also believe we need to encourage invest in privately owned water turbines to harness the vast hydro-electrical capabilities of our hillsides, and also will promote home schooling.
